Well, I cant really help if you lose your passport, but I can give you some guidance when it comes to travel luggage scales. Firstly, you need one. Its as simple as that. My personal experience at the checkin part of the airport, I always used to dread weighing my luggage - the premium one would pay for excess luggage can be extortionate, especially for cheaper airlines like ryanair or easyjet.
No problem - just get a cheap travelon digital luggage scale and check the weight before you travel.
In the same sense, if you are anything like me you buy a lot of rubbish on your holiday! What about the weight when you come back. You can end up paying more than the extra value of the items in extra luggage weight.
Again, not a problem anymore, just make sure you get a portable or handheld luggage scale - something you can pack away in your suitcase. Then just check the weight in the foreign land.
